  • All stores in Toronto have now instituted a 5 cents charge for every plastic shopping bag provided. Many major grocery stores and retailers in the GTA and other areas are also charging 5 cents for their plastic bags. Remember to carry your resuable bags in your vehicle and bring them with you shopping to save yourself money and help our planet!
  • The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) has now banned the use of plastic bags and only provide their customers with paper bags.
  • In April 2009, the film, "Flow: For the Love of Water" was released to bring the "...most pressing human rights issues today: the right to water."+  Over 1 billion people across the planet lack access to clean and potable water and millions die each year as a result.  Giant corporations are taking water from millions of people to sell for profit.  In 1948, the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were ratified by all the nations of the world.  The producer of the above film, Steven Starr, and thousands of petitioners, are requesting that the UN add Article 31, the Right to Water. For further information and to sign the petition go to www.flowthefilm.com.

  • On a different note, in December 2008, the President of the United Nations General Assembly stated that, "...the right to water is a human right and cannot therefore be treated as a commodity that is bought and sold." For more to read on this subject please go to www.canadians.org
